Sellwood Has a New Ballet Studio

     A new ballet studio is opening in Sellwood. Director Sarah Rigles Milne has taught ballet in the Portland metropolitan area for more than nine years. “It has always been my dream to open a school entirely dedicated to the study of classical ballet”, commented Milne. Classical Ballet Academy has classes for children, adults and a preprofessional program.
     Having trained at the Joffrey Ballet in New York City Milne hopes to create a small ballet studio in Sellwood with New York quality and energy. “Ballet needs to be taught in a disciplined yet nurturing environment. Ballet is an art form, not a sport. Dancers need individual attention and space to develop their specific strengths and sense of artistry. Studying classical ballet allows people to reshape their bodies as well as their minds,” Milne added.
     An open house for preregistration will be held Wednesday, Aug. 25, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the studio. An audition for the preprofessional program will be held Thursday, Aug. 26, from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. (Ladies, please bring pointe shoes.) A grand opening celebration will be Friday, Aug. 27, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
